I watched this last night and can’t believe how misjudged a production team can be on allowing a talent show act like this one on Australian variety program Hey Hey It’s Saturday. Especially in front of Harry Connick Jr., an American.
There’s some irony involved since this was the second of a ‘reunion’ show that would determine whether or not the program would get commisioned for a full series. I’m not sure what its chances are now but it doesn’t look great. To be fair though, they did at the very least air an apology straight after the host and the production team realised why this was so bad.
It’s all an absolute joke! I cant believe that this issue has got the airplay it’s recieved. I watched the ‘red faces’ segment and my only thoughts were how crap the act was. It wasn’t until Harry’s disgust that it came to mind.
Now, its been a few days and what Ive seen in the wake of all this is many ‘white’ people making complaints, and I’ve only heard 1 coloured person comment, and that is Whoopi Goldberg, and she says that she didn’t feel disrespected in any way.
So it comes to my attention that ‘white Americans’ are drowning in guilt over ‘their’ past, and respond emotionally to any sensitive issue’s that remind them of such.
Now I would be horrified too if I knew that my best friend (who is an Australian aborigine), had a grand father that was a ‘SLAVE’ to my grand father… But the fact is, that didn’t happened here, so we dont carry that same kind of guilt, and the only racism that I hear is generated by American news……And ‘white’ news readers at that.
So dont blame Australia for generations of Americans abuse towards Negro’s.
