For a while now I’ve been thinking of life after year 2 of university. For the next five weeks I will be incredibly busy finishing a mountain of work and maintaining my personal projects but what happens afterwards. Once I’m back from Brighton after The Great Escape there isn’t a lot for me to do other than Musical Chairs, Sonic Dice and Rock Blogster. It’s a massive step down in work load. So what could I do over the summer to keep my brain cells going? Here are the ideas I thought of late last night:
Those are just a few ideas but as long as I can do something that doesn’t make me feel bored throughout what could be my final ‘free’ summer as a student, I’ll be happy.

I have far too much work to do. I have about seven weeks until uni is over for the second year and I head off to Brighton for The Great Escape and I have a heap of work to do. I have to do more work on Techmole, which hasn’t been going too badly but could have had a smoother ride thanks to the arsery of one person, an essay over Easter as well as a dissertation proposal and finish off a magazine for print. That’s a sizeable chunk of work that is going to dominate my life for the next few weeks.
And what am I doing right now in this busy and hectic moment in time? Organising a trip to Thorpe Park. Priorities!

Whilst it sucks to be unemployed, it doesn’t suck to have a free weekend. Given the work I’m doing at the moment I take these two days are days of pure relaxation. I can watch sport (like I’m doing now with Chelsea vs Coventry – it’s not a good game but that is beside the point), play Audiosurf, watch films and generally take it easy. However, that’s one part of my weekend.
The other part is spent planning my week ahead – from what I plan to post on The Musical Chairs, and how much I post, to travel to places and how to keep costs low. Recently, I’ve been good with London trips – I’ve only paid for the travel and nothing else bar maybe a bottle of Diet Coke. It’s so strange that I just can’t my mind switched off from my work and part of me wonders whether I’ve turned into a person I once despised – a workaholic. Even now, I’m thinking about the possibility of creating yet another website to manage. Why am I even thinking such things when I have so many other things to write?!
Anyway, must focus on the football. Ashley Cole banged heads with his own team mate – his pain I presume similar to that of Thursday morning…

I have been pretty busy this past week – three gigs in London (ok, two of them were brief instores but they count still) and a lot of work including theory notes, work for my print assessment at university, beginning to write up a feature for the student newspaper at my university, the usual Rock Blogster roundup post, listening to some review CDs over and over again so I can form an opinion of them that isn’t going to be terrible to read and a lot of posts on The Musical Chairs. But despite all of this workload, I sit here thinking that I feel like I’m making real progress towards my future goals. Put simply, I’m getting more used to more work and it’s bloody awesome.
And I finished this book yesterday on the way back home from London. I recommend it with ease.
